COFFEE MOMENTS & EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE – WORKSHOP

You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf.

– Jon Kabat-Zinn, American professor emeritus

Emotional intelligence is a foundation for a balanced life. It has four components:

  • self-awareness
  • self-management
  • empathy
  • relationship skills

We cannot control our emotions. But we can choose, how we react to them.

Self-awareness and management skills can be trained like a muscle. We can improve our awareness and understanding of our initial emotional responses, feelings and thoughts.

Thoughts can nourish or hurt us.

Positive thoughts chase away negative feelings.

Every day and every moment, we have a choice. We can choose to think negative, but we can also have a positive attitude. Circumstances that appear negative to us at first can be reframed, if we imagine positive outcomes. When we experience negativity inside or around us, we can do positive actions.

Taking ourselves out of a negative attitude is a possibility.

Mindful coffee moments can help us to slow down and to return to a more peaceful and present state of mind. While enjoying coffee we can reflect on the beauty of the ritual and how we feel about it through all of our senses.

The Legend of the Two Wolves

Two wolves (Pixabay)

There is a Cherokee legend about an elderly brave who tells his grandson about life.

Son,” he says, “Within all of us there is a battle of two wolves. One is evil. He is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

He continued, “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The same fight is going on inside of you, and inside every other person, too,” explained the wise Cherokee elder.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The grandfather simply replied, “The one you feed.”

THE ENERGY OF COFFEE

Energy in coffee – four small articles

Smell, Taste, Enjoy or what is true coffee passion.

Every coffee-lover should have at least three coffee monkeys inside themselves. Each monkey has a different task. One focuses on tasting flavours. Another one explores the aromas with his/her nose. And one more monkey feels the body of the coffee.

All monkeys have to work together as a team with joy. People with a true passion for coffee take care of the monkeys inside of them. Otherwise, they would only consume coffee without enjoying it.

COFFEE BREWING – SMALL DETAILS

Ideal recipe for coffee brewing, what it will work for each coffee “DOESN’T EXIST!”

Coffee recipes are ideal, for beginning and coffee shops. Once you start with coffee brewing. After, you will get some new skills, try to avoid of using some recipes. Even in good coffee shops, where are experienced Baristas and often they change coffee beans, they don’t use Brewing recipes. If, yes, they are laying to you, or they have bad management who don’t trust to them, or they are not good Baristas. For me good Barista has to have some passion and love coffee.

BARISTA’S PHYLOSOPHY IN ASIA

Asian Baristas philosophy

Skilful masters of life keep moving forward, no matter how good or bad their circumstances are. They are attentive and notice the bitter ‘beans’ of life. At the same time, they keep in mind that interesting, memorable and balanced moments develop from a kaleidoscope of flavours. Continue reading BARISTA’S PHYLOSOPHY IN ASIA

IS IT COFFEE HARVEST BY HAND AN EASY TASK?

“Work hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen.” Conan O’Brien

Visiting a coffee farm

During our recent visit to Chiang Mai, in Northern Thailand we had been invited by local farmers to their coffee plantation to pick coffee cherries with them. This task was not as easy as we thought it would be!

CREATIVE SPECIALTY COFFEE SHOPS IN PRAGUE

Overview

Did you know that Prague is the home of a famous, metaphorically called ‘Dancing House’ – a building that represents the Yin and Yang philosophy of life?

Dancing house

The Yin and Yang symbol dates back to ancient China and represents the belief that everything in the universe consists of two forces that are opposing but complementary.[1]

In Prague, the dynamic Yin and Yang world view and life wisdom can be observed everywhere!

Contemporary masterpieces complement ancient treasures.

Prague is home to impressive medieval architecture, ornate buildings, cobblestone streets, beautiful parks and charming neighbourhoods where we can explore witty modern art and creative business concepts.

Ema cafe

Prague’s cafes and coffee shops represent the city’s many-sided ‘Yin and Yang’ cultural spirit.

Some cafes have been around for many decades. Have you ever wondered, where Albert Einstein enjoyed sipping coffee? Then you could come to Prague. Famous artists like Einstein or Franz Kafka visited these places in search of inspiration and peace.

In Prague, we can also find an increasing number of new, blooming specialty coffee shops. All of them enhance the ‘Golden City’s’ creative vibes.

We explored various, different specialty coffee shops in Prague and experienced unique moments that satisfied our senses!

Below, you will find a list of specialty coffee shops that you should not miss in Prague.

SUSTAINABLE FARMING – HARMONY IN DIVERSITY

“The essence of beauty is unity in variety.” –

Felix Mendelssohn, German composer (1809 – 1847)

Coffee plantation

Many coffee farmers do not only grow coffee plants on their plantations. Instead. They cultivate the coffee plants in the in the shade of taller trees together with various types of fruits and vegetables such as bananas or corn. In doing so, farmers not only gain additional income from the fruits and vegetables. But they also promote a sustainable coffee production and therefore impact on the environment in a positive way. For example, taller trees not only provide shade for coffee plants, but they also stabilize the soil and attract birds. A rich fauna attracts pollinators and supports a healthy soil. COFFEE PHYLOSOPHY

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” -Pablo Picasso.

The art of brewing coffee

Brewing coffee is a deeply fulfilling ritualistic art. While preparing coffee with our hands and all our senses we can explore different techniques and refine our artistic skills.

Creativity arises when we are calm and present at the moment. Brewing coffee brings me peace of mind.

I respect nature and love to create things with my hands. I am eager to share my passion for the art of coffee making.

It is my goal to encourage coffee-lovers to learn to handcraft coffee and to replicate the sensory experience of preparing and drinking drip coffee in the comfort of their homes. Continue reading COFFEE PHYLOSOPHY

COFFEE TASTE PERCEPTION AND THE COLOR OF OUR CUP

Color is a power which directly influences the soul.
Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), Russian painter and art theorist

Cups in specialty coffee

Specialty coffee culture is a multi-sensual, aesthetic experience. We experience the preparation and enjoyment of the coffee drink itself with not only our nose and taste-buds but also with all our other senses.

As Aradhna points out: the reason all of our senses matter is because all sensory inputs are ultimately combined into one overall evaluation in the part of our brain called the orbitofrontal cortex.’ Continue reading COFFEE TASTE PERCEPTION AND THE COLOR OF OUR CUP
