The first time we saw a Chemex was in the spring 2014, inside a small coffee shop in Casco Viejo, the historic district of Panama City. We were curious about this object. It reminded us of a laboratory apparatus. We were instantly attracted by its simple, elegant design.
We continued our journey to Monteverde, a mountaintop paradise in the Central Highlands region of Costa Rica. There we discovered a special ‘Coffee-Lab’ that was filled with wonderful coffee aromas, knowledge and all kinds of different items related to coffee production and preparation. It was in this creative lab, where we saw a Chemex for the 2. time. It was standing on the middle of the table just as if it was waiting for us.
A passionate coffee- artist welcomed us with a big smile. We could tell that he was in love with coffee that he deeply enjoyed experimenting with it. When he saw us entering his lab, he was probably looking forward to share is knowledge and to spread his passion.
It was inside this magic place, we saw for the first time, how one can slowly brew excellent coffee with a simple, transparent glass jar.
During this day, we tasted one of the best handmade filter coffees we ever had. The coffee-lover’s smile also put some magic into the freshly brewed coffee.
Every time, when there is delicious coffee around, there is a reason to smile! Living is about capturing the aromas of nature with a smile :-)! Do you remember the moment, when you saw a Chemex for the first time? Do you remember the first Chemex-brewed coffee you ever tasted?
